Beryle Ford

Obituary of Beryle William Ford

Our beloved father, Beryle Ford, passed away on Monday, April 13th, 2020 at the age of 96. Dad is survived by brother Glenn Ford, children: Richard Steger, Alane Turley, Gwen Voegtle, Crystal Ford, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death are his parents, George Belden Ford, and his mother Florence Isabell (nee Slemmon), siblings Brydene Brant (Roger), Delores Langton (Rod), Marion Wilson (Lester), Charlotte Orr (Ralph), Roland Ford (Rose), Allan Ford, and daughter-in-law Connie Steger.

Dad was born 09/16/1923 in Dryden, Canada. He grew up in the Hinckley area and graduated from Hinckley High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and sailed in the Pacific. One of his fondest memories of his Navy days was when he sailed up to another ship and there was his brother Roland on the ship next to his! It was a welcome sight for a couple of homesick boys.

Dad loved hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors. He bought land in the Cloverdale area and had a tree farm. Dad retired from the U.S. Post Office and built a house in the woods of Cloverdale. Later, he sold the house and moved to a farm just down the road. With the farm he was kept busy with gardening and farm work. In his 80’s he bought a new house in Stacy, MN. He said it was a lot less work than farming. Dad enjoyed travel, visiting friends and family, (especially cousin Clint a.k.a Brother, and wife Rose) and going to the casino in Hinckley.

Dad suffered a fall and he moved into the Farmstead in Andover, MN. He was there a little over a year before he passed. Thank you so much to family and friends who visited with dad while he lived at the Farmstead. The family is grateful to the Farmstead staff who cared for dad and showed great compassion for the family. They were there with dad along with family members when Pastor Dale Solberg performed a bedside service. In the near future, when restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 virus are lifted, dad will be buried at Fort Snelling cemetery with a memorial service graveside. Memorials are preferred to a charity serving nature conservancy in dad’s honor.
