Sheryl Olson

Obituary of Sheryl Ann Olson

The world lost some of its sparkle on March 24th with Sheryl “Sherrie” Ann (Mollenhauer) Olson, who passed away peacefully in St. Paul at the age of 73, surrounded by her husband Neil, her son Jeffrey and step-daughter Theresa. She was born August 6th 1946 daughter of Glen
and Anna Mary Mollenhauer of Marion, Iowa. Sherrie graduated from Marion Class of 1964. After high school Sherrie was a receptionist at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is
Rockwell now. Sherrie married Phil Kinney in 1965 and they adopted two children together; Jeff in January 1970 and Jenny in July 1973. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Ankeny and then Marion where Sherrie worked as a Secretary and Receptionist, as well as a homemaker and mother to her children. Phil and Sherrie moved to Minnesota in 1984, and in 1986 she started working at HealthPartners Clinic, where she would spend 30 devoted years as a financial assistant, helping many patients receive medical care. Sherrie became close friends with her neighbor Neil Olson in the late 80s. They would go on many adventures together; Sherrie even worked with Neil at Bungee America and jumped a few times herself. They were married in 2003 in Hawaii under Diamondhead. Together they traveled much of Europe and the USA, spending New Years Eve in many spectacular locations: Rhodes for the Millennium, Times Square after September 11th,
the Eiffel Tower, Mount Rushmore and the Golden Gate Bridge. Sherrie loved Las Vegas, and they went almost every year. She developed into a shark at Texas Hold’em, winning over a dozen first place trophies from tournaments in Minneapolis. Sherrie was a classy lady who loved sparkles; rhinestones covered her phone and crystals hung in many of her windows. There were almost always shiny gems on her clothing, and she was never seen without being dressed
to the 9s, with makeup, jewelry and her hair fixed. She will certainly be missed by Chico’s, Von Maur and Special Touch. She was the nicest, kindest person you would ever meet and she touched everyone she met. Sherrie is preceded in death by parents and sister Joanne. She is
survived by her husband Neil, the love of her life who referred to her as “Mon Sherrie;” her son Jeff and his wife Kelly in Princeton, MN; her daughter Jenny in Lakeville, MN; the family she gained with Neil, her stepdaughters Theresa and Vicki Olson and her step-grandson Allen
Hoffman; her many siblings: her sister Trudy Carroll and husband Terry of Penrose, Colorado, her Brothers John Mollenhauer and wife Sharon of Morton, Illinois, Jim Mollenhauer and wife Darlene of Marion, Iowa, Gene Mollenhauer and wife Joan of Toddville, Iowa, Steve Mollenhauer and fiancé Linda Anderson of San Diego, California; her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly; her cousins who were like sisters to her: Donna Sue Kinney, Mary Burns and her husband Steve; her lifelong best friend Cathy DeMoss; her close friend Phyllis Hakala; and her puppies Sugar and Spice, whom she adored and loved to dress up. Service and celebration of life to be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park at a later date.
