Obituary of Richard Lewis Barta

Richard Lewis Barta, of Duluth, died Monday, April 6, 2020. He was born Oct. 13, 1930 in Milwaukee, the son of John G. and Theresa A. Barta.

Richard was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School in Duluth, was a Korean War Veteran. He married Leora Hallada on March 4, 1945 and retired after 41 years with the Burroughs Corporation (Unisis).

He loved to be out on Lake Superior fishing with his boys or wife and was proud that he raised 5 independent children but would be there to help if needed and was a Green Bay Packer fan.

Preceded in death by his wife Leora; brothers Jerry, Robert and John; sisters Jean Barnett, Shirley Juntinen, Pat Shusterich, Betty Ayers and Mary Barta.

Richard is survived by his children, Roberta (Craig) Widiger of Aurora, Colorado, Steven (Lindy) of Esko, Alan (Dean) of Duluth, Christine (Sean) Reardon of Davie, Florida and Edward (Christine) of Duluth; brother David (Marie) of Duluth, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff and management of St Ann’s Residence for years of excellent care and St Luke’s Hospital ER and 7W Doctors and Nurses for their extraordinary Compassion for the short time he was in their care.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
