Lynn Gitelis

Obituary of Lynn Gitelis

Lynn Gitelis, native born and bred Minnesotan, died after a lingering illness on March 9, 2020. She was 66 years old. The past year, in particular, was very challenging due to chronic pain with minimal relief. As her body slowly broke down, her ability to maintain her sense of humor and wonder about the world was an inspiration to her friends and family. She rarely missed the opportunity to forward an article or a link that would either make us laugh out loud or think more deeply about the issue highlighted. We will miss her. Lynn was a proud graduate of both the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts in 1976 and Law School in 1979. While she never used her law degree to practice, her professional life was strongly molded by the methodical and rational approach she learned so well during her academic studies there. Combining a keen understanding of project management and technology, she enjoyed success at several local employers, including lengthy stints at Honeywell and American Express. Lynn’s personal interests included a lifelong love of the political process and the environment. During her life she spent countless volunteer hours helping her favored candidates run, as well as sitting on public panels to articulate policies that would inform local and state politicians on future legislation. She was the best definition of an educated and engaged citizen. We would like to thank the people of Augustana Chapel View in Hopkins and Park Nicollet Hospital for taking such good care of Lynn these last months. We are so grateful for the compassion and help you gave her. Lynn is survived by beloved sister-in-law, Val Ruf Gitelis, her four brothers-in-law: James Ruf, Tony (RuthAnn) Ruf, Edward Ruf and Roy Ruf; her niece, Nicole Ruf, and her best friend since college Susan Pearsall. And, of course, Lynn’s other very dear friends that stretch across the country. Her parents, Jack and Delores, and brother, Steven are pre-deceased. A private service will be held. We will continue to celebrate her mantra: save the earth, it is the only planet with chocolate!
