Obituary of MSGT Darrell E. Ihnot

Age 71 of Ham Lake, MN Went home to be with the lord on Sunday March 1, 2020.  Darrell grew up in Spring Lake Park, MN and graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 1966.He then enlisted into the United States Air Force.  He met his wife Gwen (Westman) Ihnot and they married on March 11, 1967.  During Darrell’s military career he served in the Vietnam war. He was also stationed to serve at Forbes AFB Topeka, KS, KI Sawyer AFB Michigan, Nőrvenich Air Base Germany, and Barksdale AFB Lousiana. He also toured Panama, Newfoundland (Argentia), England (UK), Spain (Serville), Italy, Austria Germany, Belgium, Holland, Turkey, Peru, Iceland, Thailand, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia.  During Darrell’s Military career he was a Pneudraulics Specialist mechanic.  Some of the planes he worked on were B-52 bomber, RC-135s, C-130, F-4, F-106, C-47, KC-10, A-10, Gunships, Choppers, and many more.  He received many medals and awards for his outstanding work.  He then retired from the Air Force in 1987 after 21 of years service.  Darrell and his family moved back to Minnesota where he worked for Simer Pump and Federal Cartridge. On August 20, 2019 he was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer.  On March 1, 2020 Darrell lost his courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.  Darrell is proceeded in death by his Parents Harold and Mary Ihnot, Brother Mike Ihnot, Sister Kim Gavin, Brother-in-law Peter Williams, and Nephew Mike Williams.  He is Survived By his Wife Gwen (Westman) Ihnot, Son’s; James (Leah) Ihnot, and Charles Ihnot, Daughter’s; Julie (Ron) Deitz, Christie (Keith) Shook, And Cindy (Erich) Duerr, 9 Grandchildren; Amanda, Tanner, Devin, Meghan, Baylee, Nathan, Jared, Carson, and Connor. Darrell will be deeply missed everyday. He will always remain in our Hearts forever. He cherished the time with his family and left behind a legacy to be proud of.

Private Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
