Obituary of Donald Blain Johnson
Johnson, Donald Blain age 97, a 65 year resident of St. Louis Park, passed away on February 19, 2020. Born February 13, 1923 in Benson, Minnesota. Preceded in death by parents Inga and Robert, wife of 56 years Marlys, siblings Ruby, Evelyn, Inez, and Robert. Survived by children: Randy (Jacqueline), Terry, Vickie, and Mark; 6 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends, including longtime best friend Roger Williams. Don graduated from Benson high school and the US Army Command and General Staff College. He was proud and honored to serve his country for 34 years in the Army/MN National Guard and retired as a Major. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion. A three sport athlete in high school, he was captain of his football and basketball teams. He played football for the Fort Benning Doughboys. Don was a big fan of the Twins, Vikings and Gophers. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He volunteered many hours in his grandchildren's classes. A celebration of life and burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will occur this spring. Arrangements through the Cremation Society of MN, Edina Chapel.
