Obituary of Joyce Geraldyne Plummer
Joyce Geraldyne Plummer was born on July 29, 1925 in Brainerd, MN to Fay and Sylvia Gilbert. She grew up and attended school in Park Rapids, MN. She married Earl G. Plummer, Jr. on October 19, 1941 in Morris, MN. They moved to Duluth and bought their first home on the Norton Road where they raised their four children.
Joyce was an Avon Lady for many years and then worked in the retail field, most notably Target, where she was one of the very first employees when the store opened in 1962. She worked there in many managerial positions until retirement in 1982.
Joyce and Earl built their dream log home in Twig in 1985 and lived there until after Earl’s death in 2004. They had been married 62 years.
Joyce had many interests and lived life to its fullest while gardening, camping, traveling and being on a weekly bowling league. She was a member of the Norton Road Homemakers, enjoyed being a “Red Hatter” and she was known as “The party planner” to everyone.
She is survived by her children: Geraldyne (Ken) Bragee, Judith (John) Peterson, Lynne (Terry) McDonald and Michael Plummer. Grandchildren; Sue (Bill), Kenny (Tori), Dan (Brenda), Dave (Drinda), Sheryl (Scott), Kris (Dan), Doug (Michele), Jim (Colleen), Mike (Jr) and Sarah (Travis). As well as 23 Great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, Two brothers: Jim (Cindy) Gilbert and Larry Gilbert as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Edgewood Vista Assisted Living - Legacy Memory Care, and Caring Edge Hospice. With their caring employees Joyce enjoyed a safe, warm, and friendly place to live.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave, in Duluth.
