Danny Haglund

Obituary of Danny Haglund

Danny Haglund of Duluth passed away January 31, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Duluth on June 29, 1948 to Jennie and Arvid Haglund.

As the youngest of eight siblings his early life was lived carefree. Being the youngest of the family he had to find ways to be noticed, either by actions or voice. This continued for the rest of his life. Often he would reminisce about his sisters dragging him along on their outings yet didn’t understand what they saw in Elvis.

In time he learned the value of hard work. He felt the pride in a job well done was more important than the money earned from that job. Although it wasn’t the best time in his life he was proud of being a Navy veteran, serving during the Viet Nam war. Take the time to thank a veteran. It meant the world to him when a stranger shook his hand and thanked him for his service.

Danny always had a good story to tell. It was up to the listener to determine how much truth the story contained.

The best days in recent years were spent fishing on Lake Superior with his good friend Dick. It was okay if no fish were caught. It made for a good excuse to go out again.

Proceeded in death by his parents, siblings: Donna, Janice, Barbara, Nancy, Jack, and Terry, sisters-in-law Karen Berntson and Deb Berntson-Gutz.

Survived by his wife Elaine, sons Jonathan (Mandi Towers), Philip (Sue), grandsons Kevin and Daniel, sister Judy Straka, sister-in-law Marlene Haglund, father-in-law Julien Berntson, brothers-in-law Wes (Marlene) Berntson and Steve Gutz, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Many thanks and much appreciation to Dr. Ulland, Dr. Aebly, St. Luke’s Regional Cancer Care Center, and St. Luke’s staff on ICU and 2 West.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to St. Luke’s Hospice or Disabled American Veterans. A celebration of life will be held at Cremation Society of Minnesota at 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, MN on Saturday, February 15th at 3pm to 5pm.
