Obituary of George August "Bud" Betzold
George August "Bud" Betzold, age 91, of Farmington, died peacefully at home on Jan 31, 2020. George was a graduate of Farmington High School Class of 1946. He was a Korean War Veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a farmer, active in several agricultural organizations including being a former President of Irrigators Association of MN, and an honorary Lifetime Member of MN Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by parents George and Mabel (Otte) Betzold, infant daughter Lee Ann, daughter Denise Ruddle, son Bradley, son-in-law Gordon Kaeppe, daughter-in-law Debbie (Harris), brother Dale (Betty), Merle, sisters Beverly Kraus, Vivian (Bert) Welander and Marlene Olson. Survived by sister-in-law Thelma and brothers-in-law Jack Kraus and Jerald (Diane) Olson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Phyllis Shellenbarger Betzold, and their children Cheryl Kaeppe, Brenda Kehrer, Daren, Lance (Dee), Kyle, Nancee, Bruce (Paula), and foster son James (Shari) McKnight. Also, twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. It was a rare day when he did not give thanks for the Veterans of WWII and the great number of good people he was fortunate to know. His loss will be felt by the many lives he has influenced. A visitation will be held at Faith United Methodist Church on Monday, February 3rd from 4-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at 11am (visitation one hour prior). Lunch will be served following the service. Interment will be held at Corinthian Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date.
