Obituary of Douglas “Doug” R. Tripp

Douglas “Doug” R. Tripp, 90, of Duluth died Saturday, January 18, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospice.

Doug was born June 17, 1929 in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Roy and Helen Saunders Tripp. He graduated from Central High School in Devils Lake, and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, receiving a BS in Civil Engineering. A member of the ND National Guard, he was called to active duty for the Korean War and served with the 25th Infantry Division.

Doug was employed by the M & St. L Railroad in Minneapolis, MN and Oskaloosa, IA, and later with the DM & IR Railway in Virginia, MN and Duluth. He retired in 1986.

Doug was married to Rosemary Busswitz of Austin, MN. He is survived by her and their children, John (Steve) Tripp of Minneapolis and Susan (Michelli) Bernard of Eagle River, AK. Grandchildren Ian and Erin Bernard, brother Lowell (Karen) Tripp of Fargo, ND, two nieces, and cousins and friends also survive him.

Doug was a long-time member of Hope United Methodist Church. He spent many years as an AARP tax aide volunteer and as a trolley driver at the Depot Railroad Museum. He was a former member of the Gitche Gumee Kiwanis Club and the Duluth Curling Club.

Services will be held Friday, January 31, 2020 at Hope United Methodist Church, 301 W. St. Marie St, Duluth. Visitation with family will begin at 10am, the service at 11am, with a lunch following. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Minnesota-Duluth.
