Obituary of Helen Laverne Wessberg

Helen Laverne Wessberg, 91, of Duluth/Superior died peacefully on January 14, 2020. She was born on July 26, 1928, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Henry and Helena Thurnau. Helen grew up on a farm in Fergus Falls and married Charles Wessberg on December 31, 1952. Helen and Chuck moved to Duluth in 1960 and raised their two sons. She worked at the Medical Arts Beauty Salon and later as a property manager alongside Chuck. She loved her family, her sons and their wives, her grandchildren and their spouses, and her great grandchildren. She was very proud of her family and she will be greatly missed by us all. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards, and traveling with friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, of 63 years, her parents and siblings. She is survived by her sons Chuck (Barb) and Rick (Karin); grandchildren Breanna (Josh) Schueller, Garrett and Luke, Philip (Samantha), Graham (fiancé Natalie Mellem) and Laura; great grandchildren Brynley and Ellary Schueller, Bentley and Charlie Wessberg; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Benedictine Living Community-Westwood for the wonderful care shown to her the last 5 years. Special thanks to St. Mary’s Hospital- Superior for the kindness and compassion given to Helen and the family during her final days.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 am service, Friday, January 24, in the Chapel at the Benedictine Living Community, 935 Kenwood Drive, Duluth, with the Reverend Kathy Nelson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to Peace United Church of Christ or to the Benedictine Living Community Foundation.
