Obituary of Josephine H. "Gramma Jo Jo" Cooke

Josephine H. “Gramma Jo Jo” Cooke, 93, of Duluth, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020.

She was born March 20, 1926 in Duluth to Alexander and Victoria Zych, the youngest of eight siblings. Josephine attended Denfeld High School and worked at Maurices Duluth until 1977. She was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and active in St. Joseph’s +55 Club.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Cooke in 1988, her parents, 2 sisters; 5 brothers; son in law Chester M. (Corky) Nelson.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Daniel) Hodnick and Nancy Nelson; grandchildren, Michael (Nikki) Hodnick, Matthew (Lindsay) Nelson, Molly (Karl) Broderius, Marybeth (James) Hamilton; great grandchildren, Tyler, Trent, Tanner, Tia, Jasmine, Ethan and Tyson Broderius, Eva Hodnick, Haiden & Piper Hamilton; special niece Joanne Ludwig.

Josephine was so spirited and she loved what each day would bring. Her family meant everything to her. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who held each grandchild dear to her heart.

At Josephine’s request, no services will be held. She will be buried at Polish Catholic Cemetery.
