Obituary of Alice David

Alice (Letty) David passed away on Jan 2, 2020

David (Letty), Alice, age 81, passed away at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN on January 2, 2020. Alice is survived by her husband Richard David of Bloomington; daughter Darlene (Dan) Lorentz of Chaska; son Kevin (Jenny) David of Bloomington; brother Gerald Letty of Cromwell; grandchildren Taylor, Ava, Ella and Blake; and many nieces and nephews.

She was born to Einer and Siiri Letty in Superior WI on September 20, 1938.  She graduated from Cromwell High School in 1956. Following graduation she moved to Duluth and worked in medical records at St. Mary’s Hospital.  In 1961 she moved to Minneapolis and took a job at General Motors where she worked for over 30 years. Alice married Richard David in 1966 and settled down in Bloomington. After retiring from GM she continued working at MSP airport and Kennedy High School in food services.

Alice was a kind, generous, and thoughtful person. She never missed a birthday or anniversary. Alice enjoyed spending time with her children and her 4 beloved grandchildren. You could always count on Alice to make it to a school program, band concert or game - hockey, lacrosse, softball, baseball and tennis. She was a hockey mom for a lot of years and that was her favorite sport.

Finnish was her first language and she was proud of her Finnish heritage. She had the Finnish “sisu”. There was no telling her she couldn’t get something done if she set her mind to it. Polka festivals and polka dancing were two of her lifelong favorite pastimes along with baking and making candy. Growing up her parents owned Home Bakery in Cromwell and she always loved donuts and pastries. Alice was well known for her homemade donuts, peanut brittle, rosettes, cake pops, cut-out cookies and rhubarb bread.  Baking gave her great happiness and she loved sharing her goods with family and friends. Alice did not sit idle for long. She was always off shopping at the mall, flower gardening, mowing lawn, taking photos and going up north on the weekends. She took pleasure in a nice short family trip to places like the Black Hills SD, Bayfield WI, Wisconsin Dells and the North Shore of Lake Superior.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Einer and Siiri Letty.  She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

A celebration of Alice’s life will be held Friday, January 10 from 6–8 pm at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435.
