Barbara Anderson

Obituary of Barbara Anne Anderson

In Memory of Barbara Anne Anderson 1951-2020

Barb was born in Koppern Germany on February 4th 1951 and adopted by Chuck and Helena Anderson who were serving in the Army there at that time. Her Father died when she was three years old of Melanoma and she grew up in Gary Indiana, cared for by her single Mother and her adored grandparents. She graduated from Winona College in 1969 and spent her professional life as a mental health practitioner. She served in many different positions within the Allina system including time as director of the HIV/Aids Center and for seven years was the director of the Rape and Sexual Counseling Center in Asheville North Carolina. She is survived by Libby Macdougall, her loving partner for 38 years and married in 2014, and her adopted cousin Tim Macdougall and his wife Andy.  Barb was a Master Gardner and a Bee Keeper spending many hours creating beautiful gardens wherever she lived. Her handmade soap and honey from her backyard hive were gifts enjoyed by many. She cared passionately about the environment and all creatures great and small. She could name the species of every bird that came to the feeders, and kept a tally of all the butterflies she saw each year. Barb enjoyed relating with every child she met but she specially loved babies. She made bibs, toys and carrot rattles for every new born baby of friends. She loved deeply the many adopted dogs and cats that were a big part of her life, sharing with them a very special bond. Barb left behind many friends and will be remembered for the way she paid attention to the important details in each person’s life, never forgetting birthdays and faithfully keeping in touch. Her delightful humor endeared her to all and she will live on in the minds and hearts of everyone who loved her.
