Carol Shea

Obituary of Carol (Zipperer) Shea

Carol (Zipperer) Shea passed away peacefully on Jan 1, 2020.

She was born in Ashland, WI on January 20, 1938 and resided in Superior most of her adult life.

Carol was a talented seamstress and there was not a craft that she was not proficient at, whether it was knitting, crocheting or sewing. She made hats, mittens, scarves and anything else needed for local youth hockey teams and many other organizations.

For many, many years, Carol did furniture repair and upholstery out of her home, which was taught to her by her mother. It’s been said that, at one time, you’d be hard pressed to find someone in the area who didn’t have a piece of furniture that she had worked on.

Carol was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Billings Park Civic Center, as well as other local organizations. She loved to bowl and was the anchor on her Wednesday Afternoon Ladies League at Waletzko’s for Fran’s Color Corner and other teams. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She never missed a play, concert or sporting event. She sat at more cold hockey games, indoor and outdoor, than would be recommended by even the most lenient of doctors. She then took it a step further and upped the frostbite ante by attending Superior baseball games.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Shea; parents, Albert and Teckla Zipperer; sister Beverly and brother Albert; special friend Jim Smith of Minneapolis.

Carol is survived by daughter Kim (George) Gralewski of Superior; Dennis (Esther) Shea of Hawaii and Dan (Sharon) Shea of Superior; grandchildren Spike (fiancée Samantha Anderson), Katie, Travis (Sarah Everly), Tanner (fiancée Alexis Pira), Sam (Erin) Diedrich, Christa (Joe) Deters; great grandchildren Addison, Connor and Hallie; and many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank all of the staff at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, MN for the wonderful care they provided and comfort given to Carol and our whole family.

Memorial service: 11:00 am on Tuesday, Jan 14 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Billings Park with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of MN.
