Obituary of Michael Scott "Mikey" Kovisto

Michael Scott “Mikey” Koivisto of Duluth, Minnesota died on Thursday, December 19, 2019 with his sister, Tammy at his side. Mike was born on May 26, 1961 in Duluth. He attended Morgan Park High School and lived his whole life in Duluth. Mike’s work life included Alberta Gas Company, Minneapolis Electric Steel, and his own Sudzee Carpet Cleaning. He enjoyed fishing, playing drums and percussion, listening to music, watching TV westerns, and he spent most of his time with his dogs. He loved animals and birds and being out in nature. Mikey played hockey when he was a kid and he loved watching games on TV. He cherished his many fishing trips to Canada and hunting trips to Iowa. More than anything Mike loved his family. Mikey will be remembered as one of the funniest people his friends knew. He was a great story-teller, and many of his stories were true.

Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Gary. He is survived by his beloved black labs Gus and Gabby; father, Robert Koivisto (Donna); mother, Barb Slaviero (Mike); siblings Tammy Townsend (Richie), Cindy Terwey (Terry), Danny Koivisto (Mischelle), Mark Koivisto (Shawn), Tara Nyholm (Mike); daughter, Nicole Koivisto; grandchildren, Sam and Hailey; nieces and nephews, Jake, Kylee, Chris, Phil, Desarae, Lashana, Devin, Anna, Mason and Chance; two great-nieces and one great-nephew; and many dear friends. Mikey will be remembered with smiles and missed by all who knew him.

Celebration of life: 1:00 to 4:00pm on February 15, 2020 at the West Duluth American Legion Post 71. Donations to Animal Allies in Mike’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
