Obituary of Ruth H. Carstens

RUTH CARSTENS      FEB 15,1923 - DEC 14, 2019

Ruth Carstens died unexpectedly but peacefully in the early morning of Dec 14, 2019 at her home in Amboy, Mn. 

Ruth H. Hagemo was born February 15, 1923 in Highmore, S.Dakota to Arne N and Margaret (Olsen) Hagemo who separately immigrated from Norway as very young adults. Ruth moved with her parents to Huron in Sept 1925.  She grew up and attended school in Huron, South Dakota.  

On August 18, 1940, she was united in marriage with Herman H. Carstens.  They resided in Huron, S.D. from the time of their marriage until July 22, 2004 when they moved to Mapleton, Mn.  

Ruth worked for Raven industries in Huron for three years. The remainder of her life she spent at home enjoying her family and artistic pursuits. She was a self-taught artist. Up until the end, she was enjoyed by all for her quick wit and her wry & self-deprecating humor.

She is survived by two daughters: Peggy (Charles) Tomkins of Colo Springs, Co. and Deb Carstens of Good Thunder Mn; a son, Todd (Kris) Carstens of Brandon, Florida; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  

Together for 70 years, she was preceded in death by her husband Herman on Apr 5, 2010; her parents; 2 daughters: Sharon Carstens and Myra Davis; a grandson: Timmy Carstens; 3 brothers: Arnold, Olaf & Lloyd Hagemo; and 4 sisters: Mabel Galinat, Lilly Skogstad, Esther Cahalan and Agnes Hagemo.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Bible Church in Mapleton, Mn on Saturday, Dec 21, 2019 at 1:00 pm.  At a later date, the cremains of both Herman and Ruth will be interred at Riverside Cemetery beside their daughter Sharon.  This graveside service will occur at Huron, South Dakota upon warmer weather.
