Obituary of Bernard Paul Bishop

Bernard (Bernie) Paul Bishop lost his long battle with cancer on Saturday, December 7th, 2019. Bernie was adventurous as a small boy in upstate New York, which continued into his adulthood. He loved all outdoor activities. Hiking, camping, canoe trips, sailing, boating, fishing and especially cross country skiing. He enjoyed other activities as well such as tennis and golf but admitted he could be better. He was always challenged to try something new. An example to everyone’s delight was the summer he spent learning how to sailboard.

Bernie served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After discharge he returned to upper state New York. He worked for several companies and ended at Readers Digest, from which he was hired by MTS in Eden Prairie as their first technical writer.

Upon retiring from MTS he split his time between the woods and lakes of Wisconsin and the Riverhaven community on the coast of Florida. He always said he lived in the best of two worlds.

Bernie is survived by his wife Marlene, his children Daniel, Carol (Bill) Disney, Robert (Norma), William, Theresa (Jeff) Schultz, Bernadette, his step-children Karrie (Keith) Raiff, Kolleen (Ron) Brown, Jon MacKenzie, 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 21st, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM at the Cremation Society of MN in Edina, 7110 France Avenue South, followed on Sunday December 22nd, 2019 with a gathering at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, 8100 Medicine Lake Rd. New Hope from 1 to 3 PM.
