Theresa Szymczak

Obituary of Theresa Anne Szymczak

Our hearts are broken as we tell you that after a 20 year battle with drug addiction and depression our beautiful Theresa Anne passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

Theresa was born on July 20, 1984 to Bob and Micki (Wittkop) Szymczak in Duluth, Mn. She graduated from Denfeld H.S. in 2002.

Theresa held managerial jobs in the cleaning industry. At the time of her death she worked for Voyaguer Bus Co. and also at the Duluth airport in a highly secure job. She was an artist and was so, so funny and amusing.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her sister Tina Szymczak (Rick Holmi) and her “brudder” , sister Mandi Szymczak (Matt Raihala), her “soul” sister Jenny MacDonald; her nephews Jakob Baumann (adoptive parents Walt & Mary Baumann) of Mankato, MN and Henry, Will & Phil Raitala of Saginaw, MN; her cats Kitten, Ball & Vega, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Theresa was an extremely charismatic person who lit up any room she entered. Her smile was beautiful, radiant and infectious. Theresa’s addiction and depression struggle was fought valiantly and bravely. She seemed to conquer it many times but it always managed to grab and pull her back. Such is the life of an addict. Despite this, she managed to maintain many long and cherished friendships, especially with her childhood friends, Donna Talerico of Duluth and Lorraine (Rock) Devora of Mpls.

Our world is darker now that her light has been extinguished, but her upbeat persona lives in all who knew her. God bless you. We will miss you Tweety.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 20 at 3:00 pm at Cremation Society of MN, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, with a visitation beginning one hour prior.
