Obituary of Aurine Joan Casey (Sampson)

Aurine Joan Casey (Sampson), 85 of Duluth died peacefully with her family around her on Tuesday December 3rd. She was born to June and Cliff Sampson October 15, 1934. She was a life long resident of Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1952.

She worked at Northern Drug Co., J. Frank Knorr, Oliver Iron Mining, and retired from Food Service #709 school district.

In 1957, Aurine married Michael Casey of Miami, Florida and this past year celebrated 62 wonderful years together. They enjoyed delivering motor homes along with many travels abroad including China, Korea, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, England, Amazon River, Alaska, and Ireland to name a few. They wintered in Arizona and Florida for the past 18 years.

She is a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Mom was all about being active socially and physically; she was a past president of West Duluth Women’s Club, Harbor Square Dance Club, Brownie and Girl Scouts, Cub Scout leader, Northern Nights Car Club, American Legion. Mom always kept moving with Proctor Women’s Golf League and Pike Lake Senior Golf Club, bowling, Dew Drops, Bone Builders, and other exercise classes. She canoed 75 miles in the Quetico Provincial Park to celebrate turning 60, qualified and participated in Senior Olympics, walked Grandma’s Marathon and Half Marathon and enjoyed volunteering at the marathon’s spaghetti dinner, biked the MS 150 to Minneapolis. Aurine and Mike enjoyed walking the Western Waterfront Trail and going to the YMCA in Superior where mom would swim.

Preceded in death by parents, June and Clifford Sampson; aunt, Nancy (Henry) Jensen; brothers-in-law, Dan Casey and Pat Casey; sister-in-law, Nancy (Jim) Steil.

Survived by loving husband, Mike; children, Terrie (Doug) Crosson, Mike (Laurie) Casey, Mary (Jeff) Preble and Pat (Keli) Casey; grandchildren, Hannah, Sam, Zoe, Emily, Madeline and Claire; brother, Jon (Fay) Sampson; sisters-in-law, Louise Casey and Terrie Lapietra; and many cousins.

The Casey family would like to thank the St. Luke’s staff for their compassionate care, from everyone that touched and interacted with her and our family.

Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service, Friday, December 13, 2019 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 4831 Grand Ave, in Duluth.
