Obituary of Thomas Joseph Brand

Mr. Thomas Joseph Brand died peacefully on December 3, 2019 in Plymouth, Minnesota at the age of 74. 

Loving husband of 48 years to the late Doris E. Brand, doting father of Chris (Tiffany) Brand and Suzanne Brand, admiring brother of the late Bill (Helga) Brand, and loving son of the late William and Ruth Brand.   

Tom was born on January 27, 1945 in Evergreen Park, Illinois to William and Ruth Catherine Louise Brand.  He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1963 and subsequently graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He married Doris, his high school sweetheart, in 1969. He and Doris loved driving around in his Austin Healey sports car. They later relocated to South Bend, Indiana, Farmington Hills, Michigan and Natick, Massachusetts. Following the passing of his beloved wife, he relocated to Plymouth, Minnesota near his son and daughter-in-law. Tom worked as a Mechanical Engineer, specializing in HVAC, for several entities over the course of his career, including Carrier Corp., Johnson Controls World Services (at the Boston Public Library) and Honeywell. A lover of the water, he owned two sailboats and enjoyed fishing with his father in his youth, and with his own children as an adult.  Tom was a family man who always required laughter at the dinner table and, of course, dessert afterward. Tom was a fan of fast cars, rock’n’roll, movies and animals. He was particularly fond of dogs and cats, including his “grandkitties” and “grandpuppies” in his later years. 

A ceremony in Chicago, Illinois will be held in the summer.  

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Animal Humane Society.
