Obituary of Scott J. Smith

Scott J. Smith, 60, of Proctor, died Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at his home, surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his father, William (Pat) Smith; step-father Gerald Mitchell; nephew Michael Hakes and sisters Terry Dubla and Shelly Smith.

Scott is survived by two children, Eric (Melissa) and Tanya; his beloved wife Deb (Timonen); grandchildren Ethan and Elijah; mother Dolores Mitchell; brothers David and Danny; sisters Julie Mitchell and Christy (Shayne) Spokely; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Scott was born in Duluth on August 15, 1959. He graduated from Proctor High School with the class of 1977, where he played goalie for the hockey team. He worked for the city of Duluth from 1987-2014, as a heavy equipment operator in the street maintenance department.

Scott enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a caring, thoughtful person who made sure that everybody around him was comfortable. He loved everything outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping at Bent Trout Lake campground. He loved sports and rooting for local teams, especially the Minnesota Vikings.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota (4100 Grand Ave, Duluth, MN) on Monday, November 25 at 3pm with visitation at 2pm and a reception following the 3pm service. Casual or Viking attire is welcomed.
