Mr. Rantala was the guy who introduced me to the guitar, and I'm thankful every day for that! He created a very relaxed atmosphere in which to learn, and fun as well! Such a great guy!

We are so sorry and are thinking of you all. Jeff's favorite memory of Steve is catching bass with him and Phil on Agate Lake with topwater frogs.

Mr. Rantala was my guitar teacher at Lincoln School. He was enthusiastic about sharing his love of music with others. Super nice guy and always a sharp dressed man. RIP

Had Mr. Rantala at Garfield Elementary and later in Middle School. I remember bringing in my older brothers records on record day and he always returned them later in the day after recording them to cassette. Sorry to hear of his passing...

Mr. Rantala was a great music teacher in Cloquet. He taught us songs on the recorder, helped us get the beat with clapping rhythms, and he was so kind hearted and happy. He'll be missed. I love and specifically remember him teaching us "Jambalaya" Crawfish Pie, by the Carpenters, and "When I'm 64" by the Beetles in class. Later, I learned his band played at my husband's uncle's wedding reception (probably my first realization that a teach could be in a band as a hobby activity outside of school..). Sorry for your loss, I have fond memories of him as a teacher. Take care, Jana` Nyholm (Cloquet Class of 99)
