Obituary of Nancy Carol Varner

Nancy Carol Varner, of Greenfield, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home and was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on November 9, 2019, at the age of 63. Her steadfast faith in God gave her the courage and strength to endure a difficult journey with cancer.

Nancy was a devoted daughter to her parents, the late Marvin and Dorothy Fischer. She will be deeply missed by her soul mate and husband of 43 years, Bruce Varner; loving daughters Anna (Tom) Vogel and Sarah (Derek) Barto; beloved grandchildren, Kayla Vogel and Miles and Henry Barto; siblings Sandy Fischer, Scott Fischer and Guy Fischer; sister-in-law Sandy (Jay) Krueger; along with many relatives and good friends.

Nancy was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 1, 1956. She and Bruce were high school sweethearts who graduated from St. Louis Park High School in1974 and married in 1976. They built their home in Greenfield in 1984 and worked together running the family business and tackling many projects at home and the lake cabin. Nancy spent a number of years working and volunteering in the church office at Our Father’s Lutheran Church in Rockford, forming lifelong friendships along the way.

Nancy was an incredible mother, grandmother and caregiver. She was a compassionate person who always focused on the needs of others. Nancy treasured spending time with her grandchildren reading books, doing art projects, playing games, building sand castles, skiing, ice skating, and hugging them whenever she could.

She spent countless weekends at the family lake cabin in Fifty Lakes, MN, enjoying the excitement of water sports and dirt bike riding, as well as the serenity of the woods, beautiful sunsets by the lake, campfires, s’mores and stargazing.

Nancy believed in the power of Jesus Christ’s love and the promise of life everlasting. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
