Obituary of Michael F. McGinn

Michael F. McGinn, 76, of Duluth, MN died peacefully at home on November 8, 2019, after nearly three years battling cancer. Mike was born in Nashville, TN to Francis and Helen (Mahoney) McGinn. He graduated from high school in Virginia, MN and later attended UMD.

In 1964, Mike married Sharon Godfrey in Duluth, where they raised their children Mike and Deb. His early employment was on the Iron Range, and later at the Duluth Steel Plant. Following 32 years of employment with Goodwill Industries (and predecessor Duluth Sheltered Workshop), Mike retired as Donated Goods Manager in 2004. He married Marge Bray in 2005. He thoroughly enjoyed his 15 years of retirement.

Mike was actively involved for many years in the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association and Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association, serving on their Boards of Directors. He enjoyed hunting, especially an annual trip to Isabella with the guys, and two decades of camping at Pattison Park. He developed a diverse list of breakfast cafe options, and a multi-hour casual driving route to and from each, which he enjoyed often.

Mike is survived by his wife Marge; son Michael (Alena) McGinn and daughter Deborah (Gary) Knoll; grandchildren Shawn and Caitie Carignan, Holly McGinn, Bradly Pfuhl and Berlyn Warren, Elizabeth, Timothy and Michael Stuhaug; and great grandchildren Mason, Novalee and Mary; sister Marilyn (Kermit) Nielsen and brother James McGinn; and nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Sharon.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 10:00 am at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN with a visitation beginning at 9:00 am.
