Obituary of Mike Hendel

On Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 sweet husband and loving father Mike Hendel died at the age of 50 after an intrepid 7 year battle with cancer.

Mike was born in Ypsilanti MI and grew up in Ann Arbor, MI attending Pioneer and Community High Schools. Mike served as a Marine reservist and went on to a career in corrections. Mike worked for Huron Valley Center, a psychiatric hospital for convicted felons with serious mental illness. He also worked for the Department of Corrections first in Michigan and most recently in Minnesota. Mike married his cherished wife Jennifer in 2003. Mike surrounded himself with friends near and far, including a great network of online friendships that sustained his spirit during his long illness.

Mike loved pets. He formed strong bonds with his dogs who frequently accompanied him to the park or a sidewalk cafe. He had a passion for travel, especially to Las Vegas earning the nickname “Vegas Mike”. Mike appreciated gourmet food and was an excellent cook. He has already passed some of his culinary skills on to his young daughter. Mike was devoted to his family and his greatest joy was to be daddy to his daughter Rose.

Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, and his father Steven Hendel. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughter Rose, mother Merry Carol Hendel, stepfather Robert Sellers, sister Elizabeth (David) Lininger and his treasured nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday November 8th 2019 at the Memorial Chapel, Cremation Society of Minnesota 7835 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445. Visitation begins at 2:00pm, service at 3:00pm with reception to follow.
