Obituary of David Richard Eng

David Richard Eng, Duluth, passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2019, surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with COPD. He was born on March 18, 1956 in Duluth to Hans and Lois Eng.

Dave was a loving father to his children and grandchildren, and relished in the joy they each brought to his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved time spent at his hunting shack on Chicken Creek. Dave’s daily life was enriched by time spent with his faithful lab companion, Loulou. Dave began his career as a carpet installer at Anderson Carpet & Tile. He later went on to work independently as a professional tile setter.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Doug; grandson, Lyric Smitke; and niece, Jodee Eng. He is survived by his children, Lyndsay (Bryan) Smitke, Devon Eng, sisters, Linda Eng, and Susan (Pat) Sage; grandchildren, Malakai, Jeriko, Luken, and Ryan Smitke, and Sonja Tyson, Isabelle Weiland; cousin, Patrick Eng; sister in law, Debbie Eng, brother in law, Pat Sage, nieces and a nephew; and many good friends.

VISITATION: 2:00 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 until the 3:00 p.m. memorial service at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave. Private burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Diabetes Foundation.
