Obituary of Merwin Moder
Merwin Moder 7-25-1926 to 10-5-2019. Merwin was born in Merengo, WI to parents Frank and Pearl. Merwin has two sisters, Vora and Pat and had four siblings who have preceded him in death; Nellie, Fran, Bernard and Les. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1944 and joined the US Army. He served in WWII in Europe. He was a youth baseball coach. He was active as a treasurer, Deacon, usher and Scout Master at Zion Lutheran Church. Merwin worked at Fraser Shipyards for 30 years. He was a proud member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Merwin married Marjorie Haworth in December of 1947. Marge passed away in 1984. They had 3 sons. Timothy (Kathy), Michael (Jane) and Bruce (Cheryl). Merwin enjoyed the company of many nieces and nephews and their families over the years. He had many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Merwin later married Jean Nephew and gained yet another loving family. He and Jean were very active in the West Duluth American Legion Post 71. Merwin loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, although he never liked eating fish.
Merwin’s service will be held at 1:30 pm Friday October 25th at the West Duluth American Legion. Fellowship to follow.
