Jon Sachs

Obituary of Jon Thomas Sachs

Jon Thomas Sachs, age 55, died unexpectedly on October 11th, 2019, from complications of mental illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Janet Sachs, a nephew, Aaron Strootman, and many four-legged friends.  He is survived by his daughter, Annabelle; siblings Leslie Ruff (Brad), Steve Sachs (Rhonda); nieces and nephews Nate Ruff (Callie), Aaron Ruff (Nicole), Mavis Sachs, Shelby Moen, Elliot Moen, and Joe Byrd; great-niece Ellie Ruff and great-nephew Brooks Ruff.

Jon loved many things:  his daughter, dogs, fishing, hunting, Jake’s Acre on Lake Minnetonka, ALL the Minnesota sports teams, and sports in general.  Rarely did you see him not wearing either camo or sports clothing.  His first love was probably hockey.  An avid player and also hockey official, he was very involved in the sport, including his family’s retail store, Hat Trick Hockey, which originated in Richfield, MN.

Born on November 27th, 1963, Jon grew up in Richfield.  Growing up in the suburbs, in the 70’s and 80’s, afforded him all the luxuries of street games, lots of friends, and of course, lots of hockey.  Jon briefly attended the University of Minnesota and then started a 10 year career with Eastman-Kodak.  From there, he held longtime positions with Travelers Express / Moneygram, and The Moscoe Group.

Jon had many good days.  The day his daughter was born in 2002 was a highlight.  He was a proud father and loved Annabelle dearly.  He would be SO proud to know of her plans to go to college next fall.

A celebration of Jon’s life will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, at Peace Church Eagan, 2180 Glory Dr, Eagan, MN 55122.  Visitation with family and friends starts at 3:00pm, with a service and time to share stories and memories, at 4:00pm.

In keeping with Jon’s love of all things sports, please wear your favorite team jersey!

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to help offset expenses and for Annabelle’s college education.
