Obituary of Allen John Treise
Al passed away on October 12, 2019 at age 69. Preceded in death by parents Edward and Margaret Treise. Survived by wife, Karen; daughters Paula Inman (Ron), Kris Olson, and Becky Coyle (Matt); grandchildren Liane, Abby, Joey, Rylee and Reagan; brother Ed Treise; nephews Mark and Charlie Treise; and many lifelong friends.
Al grew up in Roseville and graduated from Mounds View High School in 1968. He was a lithographer and worked in the print press business. He spent the better part of his career living and working in Las Vegas and making playing cards for the gaming industry. He knew everything from mixing the coating for the cards to selling them and working with the gaming authorities. He had a passion for speed, whether it be his cars, a snowmobile, or NASCAR racing.
In 2000 Al went blind, which was not a disability rather another challenge to conquer. Al was an advocate for the blind in both Las Vegas and Minneapolis. Among the list of his work was working to help make services available to the blind, working with the city for safer crosswalks, and petitioning the pharmacy for changes in their practice to help with medication management. He was deeply involved in the creation of Angela’s House in Las Vegas, a training school for the blind. He was both bold and brave and willing to stand up for what he believed in as well as to stand up and help others.
Since retirement Al’s love for music grew, whether it be hitting a concert or working on creating and organizing his vast music collection. He also enjoyed reading, fishing, and lunches with friends. He had a quick wit and the ability to liven up any conversation and a memory that was second to none. He loved spending time with his family and his family loved spending time with him. We enjoyed seeing him light up when he was around his grandchildren.
Al was an organ donor and was able to donate skin, bone, and his corneas. We know he would be thrilled for his eyes to be able to see once again.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held on Friday, November 1st at the Cremation Society of Minnesota-Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. South in Edina. Visitation at 1:30pm with a celebration service at 2pm and light refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the family are preferred.
