Obituary of Joan Meierotto (Boyle) Johnson

On the morning of October 17, 2019 Joan Meierotto (Boyle) Johnson of Duluth became an angel in heaven and is now free from the distress of Essential Tremors, Alzheimer’s and the pain of other medical issues. Joan was born on January 3, 1934 in Fargo, ND to Martin and Elenor (Meierotto) Boyle. Joan was raised on a farm in Fingal, ND, and she rode a horse to school. She met Ken Johnson in high school and they married in 1952. They moved to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA where Ken was in the Marine Corps. They then moved to Valley City, ND where Ken attended college to become a school teacher and counselor. In 1957 they moved to Duluth where Ken became a teacher and counselor in the Duluth Public School System. They went onto have five children. Joan retired from the Birth Place at St. Mary’s Hospital after 35 years. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church since 1957. Joan spent the last three years of her life in Edgewood Vista in Hermantown. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything. Joan was happiest when feeding everyone.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated and caring core staff at Edgewood’s Memory Care Unit. They so lovingly took care of our mother during the last several weeks of her life.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Elenor Boyle, her loving husband Ken Johnson, and brother-in-law Larry Stockmoe.

She is survived by her five children: Jeff, Tim and Scott Johnson of Duluth, Sandy Johnson of Littleton, CO and Mary Jo Aubin of Duluth; six grandchildren: Seth (Renee Borson) Johnson of Duluth, Luke Johnson of the US Virgin Islands, Cindy Fransk and Katie (Luke, deceased)  Kellerman of CO, Michelle (John) Fontaine of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Mindy (Cole Ledin) Aubin of Duluth; a sister: Nancy Stockmoe of Castle Rock, CO and brother: Dick Boyle of Deadwood, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
