Obituary of Joan Lucy LaPlante

Joan Lucy LaPlante, 87, of Duluth, died Oct. 6, 2019, in Duluth, MN. She was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Duluth, to Lucy May and Oscar Leon Merrill. Joan attended Denfeld High School, graduating in 1949, and attended the College of St. Scholastica. She married Richard Fransis LaPlante, in Duluth, MN, and worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Washington Junior High School.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, sisters Patricia and Claudia, and brother, Raymond. She is survived by sisters, Nellie and Judy. Children, Richard (Bonnie), David (Geri), Mark (Brigid), and Jill (Scott) Randall. Grandkids, David, Heather, Aaron, Eric, and Katelynn. Five great-grandchildren, June, Zoe, Henry, Eleanor, Alina and lifelong friend, June Fanaselle.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at 10 am, with visitation one hour prior, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth, MN.
