Obituary of Donald William Lilyquist
Donald William Lilyquist, 91, lifetime resident of Duluth, MN, passed away on September 24th, 2019 after losing his battle against cancer.
Don was born on March 31, 1928 to Ernest and Segrid Lilyquist.
Don worked several jobs during his life that included McCumber’s Greenhouse in West Duluth, the Work Farm, AB Dick Christie’s Printing for over 42 years and Western National Bank.
Don was an avid woodworker, he could build anything and fix everything. He and his family together built a home in the 1980s and in return he helped his children on their homes.
He loved racquetball, handball and he relearned to play the cello after last picking one up in high school 71 years prior. Don loved bowling with family and friends, and fishing with his son Loren for 24 years in the ALS Fishing Tournament.
Don was involved as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and won many awards. Don was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth for over 45 years. He was Kiwanian of the year in 1999 and became president in 2006. He was heavily involved in the Kiwanis TV auction and Annual Kite Fly.
Don would say his best memories were family vacations; camping, traveling, especially time at the cabin fixing a leaky roof or continued maintenance of the water pump.
Don and Betty were married for 66 years, were very active with their children and grandchildren and many school activities, scouting and more.
Don is survived by his sons Keith Lilyquist (Joyce), Loren Lilyquist (Laura), daughter Carol Lilyquist-Snoeyenbos (Bill), Grandchildren Carla Lilyquist, Matthew Lilyquist (Danielle), Andrea Stuber (Scott), Adam Lilyquist (Kayla), Sara Lilyquist (Steve Borndal), Jaron Snoeyenbos (Sunny), Garrett Snoeyenbos, Great grandchildren Carter and Everly Lilyquist, Kyan, Braylon, Kynsie Hall, Hallie and Ruby Snoeyenbos.
