Obituary of Roderick G. McKenzie, Jr.

Rod McKenzie, 74, passed away on August 22, 2019.

He was born November 15, 1944 in Duluth, MN. Rod graduated from Duluth East and attended UMD.

Rod worked in sales at Northwestern Bell from 1969 to 1980. From there he took over McKenzie Temporary Personnel Services and formed Creative Consultants. After exiting those businesses, he started McKenzie Maps, selling canoe maps of the BWCA.

Rod was a dog-lover and avid outdoorsman who loved to spend time at his lake home in Wascott, WI, fishing at Isle Royale and hunting in Canada. Those adventures wouldn’t be complete without his best friends and family who shared his love of the outdoors.

Rod was preceded in death by parents, Rod and Barbara McKenzie.

He is survived by his daughters, Michelle McKenzie (Jason Gillem) and Kristine McKenzie; his sister, Jill Winkler; his beloved grandchildren, Zach and Mara Gillem; nephew, Kevin Winkler and nieces Melissa Winkler, Erica Medure, Karen Edwards, and Jennifer Beyer.

Gathering of family and friends from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. memorial service Saturday, October 5 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth.
