Obituary of Veown Victorsen

Victorsen, Veown Born in 1917 to Swedish immigrants, Alrik and Maria (Johansson) Lovgreen, her name was constructed from "we own" by her parents. With an excellent eye for color and design, her early career was as a custom seamstress and milliner, and later sold women's hats in Donaldson's. In 1940, she eloped with Folke Victorsen; and together, they began a career building custom "Homes of Character." Veown kept the books and had her own crew for painting and interior design. In later years, they developed land in Edina for apartment buildings; and with partners, 7Hi Shopping Center in Mtka., and lakeshore lots on Borden Lake. She enjoyed years studying rapid transit with the League of Women Voters and MTC; hosting many exchange students thru Rotary; and a positive, sober lifestyle with her many friends in I.O.G.T. Not a church go-er, she sought truth by reading the Bible and closely followed the writings of Dr. and Julia Lee. She sewed dresses for her daughters' weddings and re-upholstered much of her own furniture. She took particular delight in "yummy" fabrics that were rich in color and texture. Veown passed away on September 4th; two weeks shy of her 102nd birthday. She is survived by her four children (and spouses): James (Rohanda), Juane "Vickie" (Larry Bakken), Jerrilyn "Jere" (Paul Thompson) and Jon (Chris); ten grandchildren and four great-grands. Thanks to the incredible staff at The Waters of Edina, Joyful Companions and Grace Hospice, who met Veown's last year-and-a-half of feistiness and determined independence with compassion and patience.
