Jeanne Chazen

Obituary of Jeanne Marion Chazen

Jeanne Isaacs Chazen, age 98, of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully at her home of 69 years with her daughter and family friend, Susan Yellen at her bedside on September 2, 2019. Jeanne grew up on the Northside of Minneapolis with her large extended family.  She was a talented musician who played the accordion and 186 numbers by memory on her cherished Chickering Baby Grand piano. She met her husband, Harry, of 69 years on a Friday and married him on Sunday after first corresponding with six letters. She moved to Mason City, Iowa for 7 years, where Harry had Chazen Wrecking and Auto Parts.  Jerry was born in 1942.  Then in 1947 they moved back to Minneapolis where Judi was born.  They bought their “lucky home” in 1950.  Harry founded a second business, the Ace Jobbing Company, where Jeanne worked side by side doing the accounting, advertising, and organizing the sales.  After they retired they enjoyed visiting their children in California and meeting them several times a year in Las Vegas.  When they could not travel any longer they enjoyed going out to Mystic Lake Casino.  Jeanne could sit for hours playing the slots or blackjack. She also was in a bridge club for 30 years, an avid reader of the classics, stayed current watching CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and Fox during the commercials, Wheel of Fortune and Shark Tank. After Harry passed away in 2009, Jeanne lived independently for 10 years.  When her daughter frequently came to visit, she enjoyed getting her hair done, going to Happy Hour at Wakame and going out for lunch with old friends.  She is survived by her daughter, Judi (Richard) Green of Los Angeles, son Jerry (Pita) of San Diego; grandson Arnie (Sandra); greatgrandsons, Jacob and Ryan; nieces Robin (Jay Arneson), Leslie (Miles Simmons), Shirley Siegel, and Eleanor Lindenbaum; nephews Robert  and Paul Jacobs; and many great nieces and nephews.  Thanks to her many friends for caring and calling her often: Leemona Armel, Mary Erickson, Alina Martin, Jim and Carol Lyman, Lesley Siegel, and her oldest friend from childhood, Ann From.  A big thanks to Byerly’s for delivering her weekly groceries; to Bob, her driver, for making her life easier; to Valentina, who looked after the homefront; to Susan, her assistant and close friend; to the indomitable Dorothy Papermaster, for sending over sustenance in the form of her famous potato salad; and to Dr. Jodi Milburn and her nurse, Kristen, of the Park Nicollet for their compassionate care.
