Obituary of Philip Fryberger
Philip Fryberger, 96, of Bloomington, MN passed away peacefully at
N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, MN on August 15, 2019.
Philip was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 12, 1923, to Philip and Grace
Fryberger. He left home at the age of 16 to begin his senior year of
high school at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia
graduating as Salutatorian of his class. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy
(1941-43) and was accepted in the Naval Aviation Cadet Program. He
was offered an appointment to the United States Military Academy at
West Point and entered with the Class of 1946. Phil became an Army
pilot and graduated with wings in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He then
transitioned into the U.S. Air Force.
Phil met Betty Ann Orr in Washington, D.C. and they were married in
1973. After a two-year tour in Tehran, Iran Phil and Betty Ann settled
in San Antonio, TX, retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1978 after
completing 32 years of combined service in the Navy, Army and
Air Force, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Following retirement Phil attended St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio,
graduating in 1981 with a Juris Doctor Degree. He taught Labor
Management Relations at San Antonio College, was an avid reader, and
he loved to laugh.
Phil and Betty moved to Bloomington, MN in 1996 to be closer to
Betty Ann’s family.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents Philip and Grace Fryberger,
brother Ted, sister Grace and brother-in-law Pat Murphy. He is survived
by his loving wife Betty Ann, sister-in-law Marilyn Murphy, many nieces and
nephews; and two daughters and adopted son from a prior marriage.
Services have been held.
