Obituary of Leonard Henry Brooks III
Leonard Henry Brooks III, age 79 of Glencoe, MN passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on August 2, 2019. Leonard was born on January 23, 1940 in Scott City, Kansas. He graduated from Scott City High School and was a member of the 1958 Kansas State Class A champion basketball team. Len loved his Minnesota Twins, fishing, traveling, planning his travels, horse racing and playing cribbage. He worked for 22 years as a general manager for the Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center in Minneapolis. When Canterbury Downs opened, he started working part-time as a mutual teller. This eventually led to a second career as a Mutual Manager at Canterbury Park, where he retired in 2011.
Len is preceded in death by his parents, Leta Mae and Leonard Henry Brooks, Jr.; infant sister Linda and brothers Leland (Lee) Brooks and Larry Brooks. He is survived by his sons Robert Brooks and Brent Brooks and daughter, Barbara Russell and her husband, Randall; grandchildren Cole Brooks, Cadi Brooks, Abigail Brooks, Grant Russell and Kyle Russell; sisters Luella Mae Betzold, Lana Sue Jantz, Lila Patricia Brooks, Lenora Ann Haynes; brother Lynn Alan Brooks; the mother of his children, Ethel Sayler; and many nieces and nephews.
At his request no services will be held. In his memory, donations may be made to the Salvation Army- Adult Rehab Center, 900 N. 4th St, Mpls, MN 55401.
