Obituary of Weston Halvorson

 

Weston Drew Halvorson, 77 of Little Falls/Prior Lake, died surrounded by love on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at his home in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife Joan of 54 years; children, Senta (Robert), Sean (Amy), Pamela (Josh), Craig (Mary), and 10 grandchildren and families. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, and survived by his brother Mark (Helen) Halvorson.

Weston D. Halvorson was born on May 17, 1942, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the son of Phyllis Bush Halvorson and Walter Halvorson. He attended and graduated from Thief River Falls High School in 1960. Wes was a varsity hockey player for the Prowlers that participated in two Minnesota High School Hockey State Tournaments in 1959 and 1960. Wes then enrolled in the United States Navy from August 1960 – August 1964 and served in the Vietnam War. Upon entering civilian life he married his childhood friend Joan Alaine Peterson on August 14, 1965 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. During their 54 years of marriage they made their home in Thief River Falls, Minneapolis area, before moving to Little Falls in 1976 and most recently moving to Prior Lake to be closer to kids and grandkids. Wes was a proud member of Local 512 Ironworkers Union, which he retired from in 2002. Wes was a lifetime member and active volunteer of the VFW; strong member of the brotherhood of Ironworkers he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, friends, grandkids and traveling with Joan.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-3:00pm, Monday, September 9, 2019 at Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435 (952-924-4100).
