Madalyn is someone I have admired since I was little when we stayed with her mom and brothers while our family spent time in Minneapolis. I remember she had a lifesize doll that could walk, a murphy bed, and a little dog. As I grew up I was awed at her travel adventures, her wardrobe, her sophistication. I envied her flair for design with furniture, color, fabrics. My parents sought her advice when they redid the draperies in our house in Fairmont. She was undaunted by tackling reupholstering a chair, painting her living room a deep brown, papering a room with bold textured wallpaper. My mom had a set of wooden maraca bookends engraved with "Havana", a memento of one of Madalyn's trips. But mostly I remember staying with her when I was a young woman finding my own way in the world and needing her kind and open heart. I will miss her.
