Obituary of Dorothy June Plumb

Dorothy June Plumb 1928–2019 Owatonna—Dorothy June Plumb (Mills) age 91, Owatonna, MN, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2019. Dorothy was born in Cullom, IL. As a young child, Dorothy moved several times. The family finally settled in Clear Creek Township, IN. where Dorothy graduated from High School. Dorothy was a cheer leader and played the trombone in her high school band. She was also active in Rural Youth and played girls softball. As a young woman, Dorothy's passion was her beautiful black horse Lady. She also belonged to the Huntington Horse Patrol. In 1952 Dorothy married Charles E. Plumb from Huntington, IN. Their two daughters were born in Huntington. The family moved to Sycamore, IL in 1960 and later moved to Owatonna, MN in 1969. Dorothy and Charles moved to a small acreage with a beautiful home in Medford when Charles retired. The move to Owatonna was not what Dorothy had planned for her life but she adjusted and started working at Jostens. She started to meet new people and formed lasting friendships. After her retirement from Jostens she started working part-time at the new Target in town because she needed to keep busy and she missed being around people. She continued to work at Target once a week until she was 85. Dorothy loved adventure and never missed an opportunity to add some excitement to her life. She was a people person and made friends of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone that knew her knew they could always count on her to be a wonderful supporting and loving friend. Dorothy had many interests, but two favorite hobbies were golf and woodcarving. Dorothy welcomed many dogs into her home life. She dearly loved all of her dogs, but her favorite was Annie, a Dalmatian that stole everyone's heart. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Laura and Fred Mills and by her husband Charles E. Plumb. She is survived by her devoted daughters Karen Plumb (Arie Boers), Jane McDougall (Kevin); loving grandchildren Casey Bean and Ashley Plumb; adoring great-grandchildren Codesea and Marley Bean; brother James Mills (Barbara) sister Rosemary Bentz (Jim); and many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends. A special thank you to all of people at Heritage House and Allina Hospice who have been so kind and caring.
