Obituary of Roger Louis Mau

Roger Louis Mau, 78, formerly of Truman, Minnesota, passed away suddenly and peacefully at his Eagan, Minnesota home on July 12, 2019.

Roger was born on November 30, 1940 to Henry and Gertrude (Schwanz) Mau and was raised on his family's farm in Martin County, Minnesota. He was baptized at the nearby Waverly Church and confirmed in Fairmont, MN in 1954. Roger attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Truman High School in 1959. He then joined the Army and was stationed in Fürth, Germany where he met Magdalene (Maggie) Müller of Nürnberg, Germany. Roger and Maggie were married in Nürnberg in 1962. After his honorable discharge from the Army and return to Minnesota, Roger worked as a machinist at Fairmont Railway Motors and, in 1973, took over the family farm in Waverly Township, west of Truman. He retired from farming in 2001, and in 2015, Roger and Maggie moved to Eagan, MN to be near their children and grandchildren.

Roger was a hard worker and a good farmer. He had a talent to creatively repair practically anything. He loved his annual fishing trips and spending time with his family and his many good friends. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and he attended their events and activities whenever he could. In his retirement, Roger enjoyed drives into the countryside with Maggie, bargain hunting at garage sales, and keeping his cars spotless and shining bright.

Roger is survived by Maggie Mau, his wife of 57 years; by his son Chris Mau and wife Liz (Ham) of Oakdale, MN, and their daughter Samantha Mau of St. Paul, MN; by his daughter Sindy Mau and her children Henry and May Steininger (Matthew Steininger); by his sister Joanne Boelter of Trimont, MN; by his brother David Mau and wife Gayle of Coon Rapids, MN; by his sister-in-law Grete Buchka and husband Hans of Lichtenfels, Germany; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Gertrude Mau; his brothers Richard Mau and Kenneth Mau; nieces Lisa Mau and Jody (Krumwiede) Nelson; nephew Douglas Mau; and great-nephew Kyle Nelson.

A memorial service for Roger will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 301 North Main Street, Fairmont, MN.
