Obituary of Dorothy Jerve

 

Dorothy Edna (Hoops) Jerve was born to Fred and Ida (Longhenry) Hoops in Sibley County Nov. 20, 1931.
She was baptized by Rev. Kolbe at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe, and confirmed by Rev. Alfred Steufurt in 1945. She attended District 38 School in Sibley County and First Lutheran School in Glencoe. Her graduation from Glencoe High School was in 1949. Mrs. Jerve completed licensed practical nursing (LPN) training in 1950 at Franklin Hospital School of Nursing.
Dorothy married Sander Jerve June 20, 1953. There were three children born to this marriage. Mrs. Jerve worked in nursing at the Glen Lake Sanitarium, Minneapolis, and then Glencoe Area Health Center until her retirement in 1989. Her kind spirit and caring personality was a perfect fit for a career in the nursing field.
Mrs. Jerve was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church of Glencoe since 1965, Woodlands Lutheran Church of Montverde, Fla. and later became active at First Lutheran Church, Brooksville Fla. in her retirement years. Having a servant’s heart, she was involved as a Sunday school teacher, council member, altar guilds, choirs, charitable event organizer, books clubs, and lay leader in all churches.
Mrs. Jerve passed away peacefully June 12 in Brooksville, Fla.
She is survived by her brother, Marvin Hoops (Judy) of Duluth; daughter, Patricia Willis Richmond (Dale) of Newnan, Ga.; sons, Greg Jerve (Sue) of Bloomington, and Steve Jerve of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Tara Thom (Tracy) of Deerfield Wis., Kristina Shubel (Trevor) of Canton, Ga., Mitch Willis (Jen) and Tyler Willis of Newnan, Ga., Alex Jerve (Kelli) of La Crosse Wis. and Ryan Jerve of Urbandale, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Thom, Collin Thom, Jackson Willis, Logan Shubel, and James Jerve. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends loved Mrs. Jerve.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sander; parents, Ida and Fred Hoops; sisters, Mildred Wiebke and Natalie Schuft.
Mrs. Jerve enjoyed getting together with family, traveling throughout the United States and international locations, reading, and spending winters in Florida.
