In Loving Memory of MICHAEL JAMES DAY

April 4, 1944 – May 30, 2019

Michael James Day (75) of Stone Lake, WI, formerly of Columbia Heights, MN and West Covina, CA entered enteral life surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Abbott Northwestern Heart Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Michael was born on April 4, 1944 at Mare Island Naval Hospital in Vallejo, CA.

Michael graduated from El Monte High School in El Monte; CA then entered the United States Navy in 1962. Michael served during the Vietnam War in the Admirals Band playing the clarinet and saxophone. Michael was honorably discharged in 1966. Michael was married to Sherry Dieter on July 9, 1965 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and after being discharged from the Navy Michael and Sherry moved to California and had four children.

Michael began his career at Ford Motor Company at the Pico Rivera, CA automobile assembly plant in 1966, after the closing of that plant, he transferred to the Saint Paul, MN plant in 1984. Michael retired from Ford Motor Company after 37 years in 2003.

Michael is preceded in death by his father Austin P. Day, (67) his mother Evelyn Szeal Day (42) and sister Paula Day (28). Michael is survived by his loving wife Sherry D. Day of 54 years; his four children Kathleen A. Hill; Michelle E. DeMitchell (Lee); Michael P. Day (Lisa); John C. Day; his sister in law, Shelley D. Dieter; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Michael loved people and volunteered for Stone Lake Meals on Wheels for the last 15 years. He was a member of the Lions Club serving Stone Lake, WI and Fridley, MN chapters for a total of 33 years. Michael always had a smile on his face, enjoyed meeting new people and talking with friends. His laughter and joyful personality will be sorely missed.

The family will host a celebration of life at the Lyons Club in Stone Lake from 1-3pm. In lieu of flowers, Mike would love to have people make a donation to the Stone Lake Senior Center.
