Obituary of Carole Irene Ramos

Carole Irene (Ashmore) Ramos, 87, of Duluth, died May 31, 2019 at Solvay Hospice House surrounded by her family.

Carole was born to Leslie and Marvel Ashmore in Superior, WI. She graduated from Hermantown High School in 1950 and enlisted in the US Army where she worked at the Pentagon and the IRS She was a single parent raising six children. Carole then worked at the Duluth Air Force Base and retired in 1983. She had a passion for helping women in the workplace. Carole was instrumental in creating the Federal Women's Program on the base and was also President of the American Business Women's Association.

Carole loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, knitting, quilting, and woodworking. She taught quilting at the West Duluth Senior Center and knit hats and mittens for the Duluth Schools. Carole also made quilts and blankets for veterans and Children's Hospital in Mpls. She loved playing Yahtzee, especially with her grandchildren.

Carole is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lois and Patricia, brother Les, son Tom, grandson Onil, and great grandson Dylan. She is survived by sister Doris Ashmore; daughters Lesli (Don) Desanto and Patricia (John) Sabrowski, sons Joseph, Michael (Rosemary) and Richard; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

Visitation is at 9am until the 10am service Friday, June 7, 2019, at Cremation Society of MN, 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth, MN Burial in Oneota Cemetery. A special thank you to the hospice team at Solvay and Essentia Hospice for providing incredible care. Memorials to Solvay Hospice House are appreciated.
