Obituary of Elizabeth Munns Turnham
Turnham, Elizabeth "Betty" Munns (93), Long Lake MN passed away peacefully May 29 in her home with family present. She was the 4th of 8 children of Cuthbert and Marion Munns, who worked and lived on a farm called Highcroft near Wayzata. Betty outlived Thomas (her husband of 68 years) by 2 years. She will be remembered for her activeness and longevity (playing tennis, golf, and skiing into her 90s) as well as her kindness and her smile! She excelled at cooking - it had been said that her apple pie was the best, gardening, and birding. While raising 5 boys, she enjoyed camping, canoeing, and attending her sons' various events. She and Tom belonged to Parkers Lake Methodist church and later became founding members of Messiah Methodist church. She sang in the church choir for 50+ years. She was treasurer at the church for 30 years after her children had left home. She also enjoyed the comradery of the service organization PEO. She always gave thoughtful gifts for Christmas and birthdays, and wrote beautifully handwritten cards on anniversaries or other special events. Her life's joy was her children. She is survived by five sons, James (Lucy), Daniel, David (Susan), Mark (Mariana), and John (Rena). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Katie, Rigney, Kira, Ben, Claire, Milo, and Tobias. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her, and will be dearly missed. Services will be at Messiah Methodist Church, 17805 County Rd 6, Plymouth, MN 55447 on June 21, 2019. Visitation at 10 AM with service to follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Messiah Church in her name.
