Robert “Bob” Goodale King

Bob was born March 27, 1919, in Verndale, Minnesota, to Fred and Lillian King; he was their only child. Bob enjoyed his childhood with his best friend, George Suddendorf, his Welch pony, Star, and a fox terrier from the Ringley Brothers Circus, Bud. Bob graduated from Verndale High School in 1936 and from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Bob was a Second Lieutenant in the Army in World War II, serving both stateside and in India. After the war he was a Park Ranger at Wind Cave National Park summers of 1946 and 1947.

Bob worked for the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company as a Claims Adjuster for 44 years, retiring in 1996 at the age of 77.  Bob was known to his co-workers as “Mr. Integrity”.

Bob and wife Pauline were married on August 19, 1950. They raised their three children - Andrea, Roberta, and Tim – in Richfield.  The family enjoyed camping at Leech Lake and around the country. In retirement Bob and Pauline traveled to Europe and many places around the United States.

Bob and Pauline were members of Emmaus Lutheran Church. Bob shared his faith in Jesus with anyone he met, and through the Gideons and distribution of his booklet “Four Lessons for the Supreme Life”.

Bob and his son Tim raised and rode Arabian horses.  In 1998 Bob helped found the Scott County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol, participating in search and rescue, crowd control, and parades.  He retired from the patrol in 2008 at the age of 89.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin Phyllis, who lived with Bob and his parents and was like a sister to him.  He is survived by his wife Pauline, his children Andrea (Paul), Roberta (Scott), and Tim (Lisa), six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
