Obituary of Donald David Roberts

Donald David Roberts, 75, of Stillwater, MN went to be with his Lord and Savior and loved ones on May 25, 2019.

Don was born on January 22, 1944, in Duluth, MN to Donald and Ruth Roberts. He was an only child. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1962 and graduated from UMD in 1966 with his elementary school teaching license. Don married the love of his life, Anne Johnson, on December 17, 1966. He taught at Laura MacArthur, Chester Park, Irving, Kenwood and Lakewood Elementary Schools. He received his master’s degree from UW-Superior in 1972. He retired from teaching in 1999. Don and Anne had 4 children and raised them to adulthood in Hermantown, MN.

Don was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church, first in Duluth, MN and then in Stillwater, MN. He was a softball coach, golfer (built his own 5-hole course in the back yard), volunteer fire fighter and skilled carpenter. Don enjoyed being outdoors; camping, playing sports (basketball and softball), water skiing, and hunting. Don and Anne also had a hobby farm for several years and, with friends, they raised cows, chickens and ducks. Don was a loyal, caring and creative person who would do absolutely anything for family and friends.

His passion was fishing. Don started fishing at a young age and continued throughout his adult life. He went on many fishing trips (BWCA, Lake Superior, Lake Vermillion) with “the guys”. Family camping trips undoubtedly included fishing. Don loved being in a boat on the water with a fishing pole in his hand.

Don was a loving husband, the best dad, a wonderful father-in-law, a caring grandpa, a true friend. He will always be fondly remembered.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ruth Roberts; wife, Anne; and daughter, Kathryn Anne Dahlheimer. Don is survived by his children, Susan (Allen) Powers, Deborah Roberts, and David (Angie) Roberts; grandchildren, Aimee (Morgan) Powers-Viebrock, Michelle Powers; Tyler Vechinski, Allie and Kyle Roberts; Jessica and Brendan Maki; siblings-in-law, Joan (David) Selvig and David (Doris) Johnson and many other family members and life-long friends.

The family would like to express their appreciation to The Estates of Greeley and to Lakeview Hospice, both of Stillwater, MN for their exceptional care of Don.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater, MN on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 am, with a visitation one hour before. Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
