Obituary of Lydia E. Fontaine

Lydia E. Fontaine, 98, of Proctor, passed away peacefully at Essentia Health Monday, April 15, 2019.

Lydia was born December 1, 1920 in Rolette County, North Dakota to Emil and Heleda Cote. For most of her early years, Lydia lived on the family farm in Dunseith, ND. On December 2, 1938, Lydia married Ernie Fontaine and stayed on the farm until she and Ernie moved to Proctor to raise a family.

For years Lydia was a homemaker, taking care of her six children, but eventually went to work at Chung King and later at St. Mary's Hospital until her retirement.

Lydia was an outstanding cook and baker and helped out at many events at St. Rose Catholic Church, in Proctor. She enjoyed going to the VFW and dancing the evening away.

Lydia was preceded in death her parents; a son, Larry; her brother, O'Neil; and sisters, Leona, Eileen, Irene and Yvette.

She is survived by her children, Mary (George Fasteland) Saburn, Greg Fontaine, Barb (Bob) Shovein, Kathy Johanson and Kim (Steve) Maida; as well as 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa Awalt and Esther Fugure; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Diamond Willow (Misty Ivy) and the staff of 9 West at Essentia for making Lydia's life as comfortable as possible, in her later years and days.

Gathering of family and friends from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, June 10th in St. Rose Catholic Church, 3 Sixth Ave., Proctor.
