Obituary of Robert Gene Loney

Robert Gene Loney 78 of Duluth, died May 7th 2019 at Essentia Health Duluth, MN surrounded by his family.

He was born December 23, 1940 to Mildred and Robert Loney in St. Paul, MN. He graduated from Cook County High School Grand Marais, MN in 1959. Robert joined the United States Marine Corps in 1961 where he served as a radio telegraph operator and a map and aerial photographer as well as a paratrooper where he earned his wings. After completing his service in the Marines he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a missile fire control technician on the USS Henry L. Stimson. Following his service in the nuclear submarine fleet he became a Naval Recruiter in 1976. He retired from NAS Willow Grove, PA as a Master Chief in 1989.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife Carol; brothers James, John, Tom, and David.

He is survived by daughters Laura McDonald (Wade) and Tracey Holecek (Dean), sister Roberta Kidd Loney and brother Larry Krause; grandchildren Ryan Wright (Helisha), Jessica Knight (Justin), Sara Slaviero, Owen Hoover, Morgan Holecek, several nieces, nephews, and many great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Cremation Society on Tuesday May 14 at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.
